Across six markets, UM MENAT marked Stand Against Bland Day 2026 by putting AI-generated work to the test and reaffirming the role of human thinking in every campaign strategy.

DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES: UM MENAT, an MCN agency in the region under Omnicom, joined colleagues around the world on 22 October for Stand Against Bland Day 2026. This year’s theme, Don’t Outsource the Human, was a call to question AI-generated work and consider how human experience, creativity, and critical thinking can strengthen media strategies for clients.

Building on last year’s global initiative, which centred on difference as a competitive advantage, this year’s focus addressed the growing risk of accepting AI-generated outputs that are a ‘convincing’ or ’just good enough’ response to our clients’ questions and briefs with very little intervention.

To bring the theme to life, offices across UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, KSA, Egypt, and Lebanon put AI-generated strategies through the “human edit”, assessing mock client briefs, and identifying deliberate mistakes through five qualities: experience, inspiration, creativity, understanding, and critical thinking. Each market came away with a shared commitment to keep these qualities at the centre of everyday client work.

Commenting on the philosophy behind the initiative, Joe Nicolas, Regional CEO of UM MENAT, said: “Stand Against Bland is central to how we believe media should be activated for our clients. With AI, a credible answer is always within reach, and that is exactly why we keep asking whether it is the right one. The best work we do for clients still comes from people who know the region and its culture, who trust their judgement, and who care enough to push further.”

Stand Against Bland is UM’s year-round stance against the safe, the generic, and the forgettable. It shapes how the agency challenges briefs, builds media strategies, and works alongside clients and media partners to create work that is bold, distinctive and effective.
