Books have overtaken vapes and we actually found an umbrella in Dubai
13.01.2022, UAE – As we venture into 2022 and Mercury prepares to go into Retrogade, Uber looks back at what riders left behind on their trips during 2021, in the fifth annual Lost & Found Index. The annual Uber Lost & Found Index recaps riders’ most common, as well as the most unique forgotten items in Ubers. Not to mention the most forgetful days, dates, and cities. Here’s what we know about the UAE!
As expected, phones and cameras are kicking off the list as the most forgotten items in the UAE, closely followed by other usual suspects such as wallets, bags, and keys. New to the list this year however, books have taken over vapes as the eighth most commonly lost item. Good to see that people are occupying their time with better habits!
Many riders reach out to Uber about the items they forget and topping the list of unusual forgotten items this year is jewelry, make-up, and watches. Extremely strange for the UAE, there’s an increase in people forgetting their umbrellas in the back of Ubers! ‘Cuz who needs them, right? Someone also left behind a vintage film camera!
It seems like riders start to lose focus near the end of the year as December and January were the most forgetful months last year. Riders are also most forgetful between 8 and 9 AM and on Thursdays and Fridays. Wonder why!?

If you do happen to forget a belonging in an Uber, don’t panic! The best way to retrieve a lost item is to call the driver – but if you’ve left your phone behind, you can log in to your account on a computer. Here’s what to do:
- Tap “Your Trips” and select the trip where you left something
- Scroll down and tap “Find lost item”
- Tap “Contact driver about a lost item”
- Scroll down and enter the phone number you would like to be contacted at. Tap submit.
- If you lost your personal phone, enter a friend’s phone number instead (you can do this by logging into your account on a computer, or using a friend’s phone).
- Your phone will ring and connect you directly with your driver’s mobile number.
- If your driver picks up and confirms that your item has been found, coordinate a mutually convenient time and place to meet for its return to you.
- If your driver doesn’t pick up, leave a detailed voicemail describing your item and the best way to contact you.
