Give to Gain: Leading with Purpose

What if success was not defined by what we achieve for ourselves, but by what we create for others along the way?

When I look back at my professional journey, I realize that the most meaningful opportunities did not come from chasing titles or positions. They actually came from curiosity, from taking risks, and from contributing to something larger than myself. As I say, I am a human of many missions

I was born in Greece into a traditional, family-centered environment where resilience and hard work were deeply valued. From an early age, curiosity pushed me to explore different paths, through sports, volunteering, creative activities, and anything that allowed me to experience something new. That mindset eventually shaped a career that has taken me across technology, media, and advertising, working with global organizations across different countries, different cultures, different industries & functions.

Looking back, a few moments shaped how I see leadership today. Early in my career at Sony, I was part of the team launching PlayStation in Europe, despite the fact that I had never played video games before. What stayed with me was the excitement of building something new and the power of people rallying around a bold idea. Later at Omnicom, my curiosity led me to building the company’s digital business at a time when digital was still emerging. What began as a leap of faith turned into a twelve-year journey of learning and helping shape a digital ecosystem.

In 2013, after moving to Dubai with my family, I joined Facebook when it still felt like a startup, fast, ambitious, and constantly reinventing itself.

Today, leading the Advertising Business Group in the Middle East feels like a natural continuation of that journey—bringing practitioners and businesses together to move the industry forward and promote more responsible, people-centric marketing. ABG is the region’s first brand-centric industry body, ensuring that the voice and priorities of brands are at the center of industry progress

Each of these experiences reinforced something important: growth often happens when we step into the unknown.

Along the way, I became increasingly aware of the different realities women face as our careers and lives evolve. Early in my career, I experienced moments where opportunities were shaped by assumptions rather than capability. Experiences like this helped me better understand the structural and cultural barriers many women encounter throughout their professional journeys. They strengthened my commitment to contribute to building leadership cultures that value diversity, equity, and inclusion. Since then, across every role I’ve taken, I’ve tried to use my voice and position to advocate for more inclusive workplaces where talent and ambition and not circumstance or stereotypes, define opportunity

Looking back, four values have consistently guided my leadership, what I often call the four Cs.

Curiosity keeps us learning and open to new opportunities.
Courage allows us to take risks and step forward even when the path is uncertain.
Collaboration reminds us that meaningful progress is rarely achieved alone.
And Commitment ensures that ideas translate into action and impact.

These values also inspired me to write my book FORCE, where I explored the journeys of people who dared to carve their own paths and create meaningful change. Through those conversations, one idea became clear: when purpose leads, opportunities multiply.

That belief is closely connected to how I interpret the theme “Give to Gain.”

In many professional environments, success is often framed as competition. But my experience has shown that the opposite mindset creates far greater impact. The opportunities that shaped my career did not come from focusing only on my own advancement. They came from contributing and sharing knowledge, mentoring others, building communities, and creating platforms where people could collaborate and grow.

Giving knowledge, giving time, and giving support strengthens the ecosystem around us. And in return, it creates opportunities none of us could generate alone.

To me, Give to Gain means understanding that contribution is not a sacrifice, it is the foundation of long-term success and impact.

To the next generation of women entering our industry, my advice is simple.

First, do not limit yourself to a single definition of who you are. Careers today are rarely linear, and exploring different paths often leads to the most meaningful opportunities.

Second, stay curious and keep learning. Curiosity will open doors you didn’t even know existed.

Third, invest in relationships and collaboration. Leadership is rarely a solo journey.

And finally, have the courage and commitment to pursue what truly matters to you.

Because when we lead with purpose, support each other, and contribute to something larger than ourselves, opportunities do not simply appear. They multiply.

And that is the true spirit of Give to Gain.
