Snapchat Introduces new friends-only sharing experience for Snapchatters under 16
New update gives younger teens a dedicated space to create and share content with friends while strengthening privacy protections
Dubai, UAE – 9 July 2026: Snapchat is rolling out a new content-sharing experience for Snapchatters aged 13–15, giving younger teens a dedicated profile where they can create, save and showcase Stories and Spotlight videos visible only to their mutually accepted friends.

As part of the update, Snapchatters under 16 will no longer be able to post Spotlight content that is distributed to non-friend audiences. Instead, content shared by younger teens will remain centred on real friendships and trusted connections.
Safety and privacy have shaped Snapchat from the beginning. As young people spend more time creating, sharing and communicating online, the platform continues to evolve to meet their changing needs. These updates reflect a long-standing commitment to designing age-appropriate experiences that help younger Snapchatters express themselves and participate online while benefiting from strong privacy and safety protections.
The update forms part of Snapchat’s age-based approach to content sharing. Snapchatters aged 13–15 can share content with mutually accepted friends only. Snapchatters aged 16–17 can access public sharing features with additional safeguards, limited distribution and parental visibility. Adults aged 18 and above continue to have access to Snapchat’s full public profile and content distribution features.
The new experience sits alongside Snapchat’s existing protections for teens, including strict default privacy settings, safeguards against unwanted contact, proactive content moderation and Family Center, Snapchat’s parental supervision tool.
Sharing with friends remains at the heart of Snapchat. These updates provide younger teens with a more private environment to create, save and share content while maintaining age-appropriate protections.
