Cairo, Egypt—October 10, 2022—Today, Amazon.eg announced the launch of the “Support Egyptian Products” storefront, a curation of tens of thousands of Egyptian products selling on Amazon.eg. The new storefront was announced during the Turathna Exhibition for Heritage and Handicrafts, which is organized by Egypt’s Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (MSMEDA) and inaugurated by Egypt’s Prime Minister Dr. Moustafa Madbouli. The launch aligns with the government’s agenda to support local businesses and contributes to the digitization of small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs). Egyptian products will now be showcased in a dedicated storefront on Amazon.eg, making it easier for millions of customers across Egypt to find products from Egyptian SMBs.
Nevine Gamea, Executive Director of MSMEDA, expressed her appreciation of MSMEDA’s “cooperation with Amazon Egypt to expand both the product offering and exposure of small businesses, to help them meet global and local standards. She added, “It is very important to collaborate with leading ecommerce companies like Amazon Egypt to assist owners of SMBs in various sectors to grow their businesses online. MSMEDA will continue to work with partners to develop mechanisms that help SMBs market their products and expand. MSMEDA is also interested in supporting traditional handicraft projects that reflect the richness of the Egyptian cultural heritage, producing modern products that meet all customer needs.”
Omar Elsahy, Amazon Egypt General Manager, said: “Today, we are very happy to be launching a curated store on Amazon.eg to support Egyptian products of all kinds. I am proud to see that we are working to support Egypt’s rich resources and the country’s path towards development. The storefront promotes and endorses tens of thousands of local products from SMBs that are able to compete with foreign products. We will continue our commitment towards the ongoing success of our SMBs, as they are fundamental to our ability to offer broad selection, great prices, and a convenient shopping experience for our customers. Launching the ‘Support Egyptian Products’ storefront is a continuation of our promise to continue to invest and innovate on behalf of our customers, providing SMBs with the tools and services needed to succeed.”
Earlier this year, Amazon.eg signed a Memorandum of Understanding with MSMEDA, headed by former Minister of Trade and Industry Nevin Gamea, to find ways to develop the capabilities and competencies of SMBs to grow their business online and to promote the richness of local products. With the accelerating growth of Egypt’s digital transformation, selling on Amazon.eg unlocks a powerful and proven economic engine for SMBs in line with Egypt Vision 2030.
Dr. Raafat Abbas, Head of the Central Sector for Non-Financial Services at MSMEDA, explained, “The technical services we offer SMBs are among the most important factors that contribute to the success and sustainability of small businesses.” He added, “MSMEDA assists SMBs with different services throughout their life cycle, and marketing their products and giving them the opportunity to participate in local and international exhibitions are among the key elements to help small businesses grow. This is in addition to registering SMBs in the supplier registry of government agencies, and partnering with private and public companies, including ecommerce.” Abbas added, “Partnering with Amazon Egypt is a great business model, where SMBs can display their products on Amazon.eg store and are provided the needed training to grow their online business and price match their products to comply with the applicable local and global requirements, which increases their competitiveness at the local and international levels.”
Ahmed El-Sobky, Head of Amazon Egypt Marketplace, said: “Since our launch in September 2021, we have been supporting SMBs with different tools and services. Today is a proud moment for Amazon.eg by showcasing some of the most interesting and unique products from SMBs in a dedicated store, reaching millions of customers across the country. Amazon.eg will continue to enable the growth of SMBs, providing them with opportunities and access to extended geographies 24 hours a day to grow their businesses, hence boosting the country’s efforts towards digitizing SMBs.”
Amazon.eg’s tools and services include the opportunity to use Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA), where Amazon stores, packs, and ships SMB products to customers—allowing them to reach customers faster and more efficiently, especially during sales events like White Friday. Additionally, when SMBs use FBA, their products become eligible for Amazon Prime, which provides Prime members with fast and free next-day delivery with no minimum order and access to deals on Prime Day, Amazon’s annual global shopping event. Other tools to help SMBs grow online include easy listing tools, payment processing features, and the Amazon Seller Mobile App.
